I love reading time travel books because it's always interesting first to see how they are finally convinced that they are in another time frame and 2nd of all, how they react to the monumental changes. What was allowed in the current time and how it's not even close in the past or vice versa. Sharon also has to figure out Why she's sent way back and the dangers involved... what if she's executed as a witch??? even though that particular problem wasn't as yet widespread. I'm guessing Richard's problem probably wasn't as unique as it seemed - had to be a crushing blow to his manhood to be considered a bastard in those days. Love her books..never read a bad one yet..I have read almost all of her books..very good writer..keeps you turning pages..
I so enjoyed reading this book. it's in my favorite time period, and delightfully intriguing. the characters are fresh and never dull. I'm going to look for more books written by this author.
I enjoyed this book. It is a light hearted read, amusing, tender, and full of clever plot twists. Recommended for historical fiction fans looking for a quick read.
I have a thing for stories about time travel and this one was really good! I loved the characters in it and the situations. I especially like the idea of a legitimate son of Henry the 8th!!
With her third time travel novel, Terri Brisbin once again captures the hearts of her fans. Ms. Brisbin is fast becoming a force with which to reckon in the time travel genre.
Thirty year old Sharon Reynolds, head curator for the historical costume and fabric collection of the Chicago Museum, is in an old manor house in London, England, examining a collection of clothing purported to be from the Elizabethan period. While doing so, she discovers a piece of parchment dated 1560 A.D. concealed in one of the gowns, the written contents of which, had it been discovered back then, would have had the power to change history as we know it. In her excitement to share this find with her colleagues, Sharon stumbles into a small, hidden room and finds herself transported to sixteenth century Elizabethan England.
There, she is providentially mistaken for one of Queen Elizabeth's seamstresses. She meets up with the Queen's stable master, the handsome and charming Richard Granville, illegitimate son of Henry VIII and half brother to Queen Elizabeth I. Attracted to him, she finds herself falling in love with him before she realizes that the parchment she holds has the power to change his fate, as well as that of Elizabeth and England, forever.
This is a wonderfully inventive time travel tale, replete with political intrigues, plot twists, and characters who charm the reader. The author masterfully weaves a tapestry of events that will keep the reader turning the pages of this book.
Don't count on this book to be historical, but if you want an enjoyable romp through Elizabethan England you'll like it.
I won't belabor the fact that it is not accurate and lacks research as other reviews have covered those facts, but I did not read it for historical accuracy. I just wanted some time travel escapism, and it certainly fit the bill.
Character development is good. While Richard is quite the rogue in the beginning, he becomes more likable as the novel progresses. And I did enjoy Sharon's spunk.
I really liked the ending as it was NOT predictable.
The book is fast paced and the story line was well thought out. History came alive for me in these pages, i felt like Queen Elizabeth I was shown as a more caring person than she normally is. I like that. Great happy ending and an epilogue. (I thoroughly enjoy epilogues)
