Perfect Fling Serendipity Finest Book 2 edition by Carly Phillips Romance eBooks
I am new to the Serendipity series and jumped into it with this book. The main characters, Erin and Cole are both natives to the town or Serendipity.
Erin is now working in the DA's office as the ADA and Cole has mysteriously returned to town after a 7year hiatus. There are rumors about his disappearance, but no one is really sure what he was doing. But the town treats Cole with distrust and suspicion.
Both Erin and Cole become 'involved' and this book is about how their 'fling' graciously blooms into a full-fledged love that gives the reader the HEA with NO Cliffhanger. There are elements of fun, danger and steamy love scenes.
This book can be read as a standalone book. I wasn't confused by other characters/stories, etc.
This book was easy-to-read, the dialogue flowed extremely well. There was humor and lots of other characters that rounded out the story and didn't make it tedious to read about the Erin+Cole romance.
I liked both characters - a lot.
Erin is strong, independent, smart, sensual and funny. She is intuitive about other people's feelings, doesn't run away crying, doesn't lie and isn't angst-ridden. Cole is also strong, independent, macho and is desperately attempting to keep his feelings bottled up to prepare himself and others for his pending departure from the perfect town of Serendipity.
Both characters are great. The humor and easy dialogue go both ways and it's fun to read.
Ms. Phillips does a great job with Cole. She writes him in a multi-faceted way. He is a very strong/macho guy with Erin's brothers, the evil antagontist and a potential competing love interest. He is sweet, concerned and kind with Erin when she gets hurt or is feeling down. He is vulnerable and sensitive when he is around his father. But these various feelings and personas of Cole are not contrived - he feels like a real person and we fall deeper into his character which makes the book so great to read.
Erin is also very interesting. She is the sister of two brothers that work as police officers, so they are super protective of her. She is working to be more independent and make decision independent of what her somewhat overbearing brothers think is best. Carly Phillips does a great job writing Erin's 'growth' to be more assertive and independent of her family/brothers specifically. Erin works to heal people in various ways, without making it like she is being Pollyanna-ish. Again, well written.
The piece that the antagonist brings to the book is the danger element, but more specifically, expedites the romance b/w the characters. Where Cole may have been able to leave Erin behind with some angst, the antagonist jump-starts his heart to show him how important she is to his life. This was my least favorite part of the book. But I went with the flow.
The other characters are great. Strong, supportive and funny. Especially Macy. I havea friend like her and she is hysterical. Tell it like it is!
This book really was great to read as it hit the hot spots for me.
Great easy to read romance, (uhm, hot steam scenes), strong characters and great supporting ones too.
Again, the antagonist was only so-so for me, but the 'let's wrap this up' piece was only a small part of the last few chapters.
I LOVE long epilogues - give it to me with a bow on top! And this totally hit that spot! Thank you for a big HEA!

Perfect Fling Serendipity Finest Book 2 edition by Carly Phillips Romance eBooks Reviews
I liked the book, but it did not push me to feverishly read it like others by this author. Cole's story was touching, the family dynamic of Erin's was nice, but the flow seemed a little.... off to me. I actually got the impression of more fluff than substance in this book than her others. Probably due to the process to get that HEA while there was a stalker on the loose. I will say this..... you won't be disappointed with the story, but you might end up reading it at a slower pace with plenty of breaks in between, but once the story picks up.... it will wrap up rather quickly.
I'm now going to have to have a break from this author because things are going downhill. Whilst I've loved the 'Dared to Love' and 'Love Unexpected' series, I really didn't like 'Midnight Angel' and I disliked this one even more.
+++Minor Spoilers+++
I'm in the minority and there are loads of summaries so I'll just say that I get that the H was tortured etc. This, however, doesn't make up for him being cold and an ass towards the h. I'm not a fan of stories where the H is cold towards the h right the way until the end and then through some catalyst, he suddenly realises he's in love. There was sex, sure, but love? Not so sure about the hea in this one.
This installment of Serendipity's Finest was great! I read a book by Carly Phillips numerous years ago and that's what got me hooked on contemporary romance - now I'm up to 2-3 books a week! Cole was one of my favorite characters of the series and it was great to watch Erin grow and become her own person and her brothers cracked me up! The dialogue in this book was great, seriously, I did not want the story to end.
This had all of the elements that I want when I sit down to lose myself in another world - the bad boy, the good girl and a happy ending. One of my favorite parts of a series is when couples from previous books in the series play a role and this book just fit that bill! Read this book (and the entire series) - you will not be disappointed!
I won't recap the story, as I see many others did, so my input is just that it was a fantastic book, I really, really enjoyed it and I think you would too!
**Note an advanced copy of this book was given to me for an honests review.
Cole is an undercover NYC policeman and he is currently in Serendipity between assessment. Erin is an assistant district attorney and she has had a crush on Cole since she was in her early teens. The night Cole ask Erin to go home with him she said yes. Several months later Erin is shocked to find their night of passion resulted in a child. Before Erin can tell Cole he is going to be a father someone shoots her. Cole appoints himself her bodyguard until the person who I'd trying to kill her is caught.
This is a wonderful story. If you have read the other books in this series you will enjoy catching up with old friends. If you have not read the first books in the series you have missed some great reading. This is a stand alone book, you will not be lost and wondering what is going on if this is your first visit to Serendipity.
I loved this story. It is filled with small town people and places which are my favorite kind of stories. This is also part of a series "Serendipity" which is the small town. Erin is an Assistant DA and Cole is an undercover cop working out of NYC. He is in town to help his elderly father, they have a strained relationship but he still feels a sense of responsibility. Erin & Cole run into each other at a bar and have a one-night stand. From the next morning on Cole doesn't treat Erin very well. He wants to make sure she understands that there can not be anything between them. A few months pass and Erin finds out she is pregnant, someone shot her, she is being stalked, etc. Sparks fly through the rest of the book between Erin and Cole. You will have to pick up the book to find out what happens next. You won't be disappointed.
