My Forever Life edition by Susan Phelps Romance eBooks Reviews
I thought it was alright for a sweet romance. I would give the heat level about a one or two.
***Spoiler alert*****
It has been a longtime since I've felt the need to finish a book, to which I stayed up to the wee hours of the morning reading it. The characters were real enough for me to feel like they were my friends and I was part of their group. I loved the creative cussing that happened. The writing was pretty clean, and the story moved well. There were a few reasons I gave this book four stars and not five...The "sister" and "brother" usage. It was okay the first few times, but after a while, it drove me a bit crazy. Also, the ending. She had been through a highly abusive relationship, where her friends stood by her and she gets mad at them over something that happened in high school?!! No. Just no. I felt robbed at the end, as though the only reason that part was added in was to hit a certain word count. It was disappointing.
Disclaimer I received a free copy of this book for an honest, non-reciprocal review.
Corina is in an abusive marriage with Keith. Her only times of freedom are with her two childhood friends, brother and sister Wes and Dani. As Keith’s abuse gets worse it is Wes and Dani along with members of their family and other friends who help Corina escape her marriage, but even as she gets out of this relationship she finds herself falling in love with the man she has always regarded as the brother she never had.
Opening as it does with an attack by Keith on Corina I was expecting a darker story than the one that developed. So after an uncertain start I found myself warming to the dialogue/banter between Corina, Wes and Dani that even had me laughing out loud on occasion. It was the difference between domestic violence, humour and romance that made me struggle initially to get into the book because I was unsure where the story was heading.
Overall I enjoyed the read and I would recommend it to those who prefer this type of story and also to anyone else on the lookout for something different.
Cori has been in an abusive marriage for the past year and a half. She has been estranged from her own family since leaving home at 16, and only has a couple of close friends in her life. After one violent incident too many, Cori finally decides to leave her husband and calls upon her two best friends for help. To further complicate matters, feelings develop between her and her friend Wes.
Overall, this was a sweet romance between Cori and Wes, however there were several areas that didn’t sit quite right with me. For instance, Cori’s attitude and demeanor seemed completely unrealistic considering her husband has been physically and emotionally abusing her for the last year and a half. The day after a horrific beating, when Cori finally decides on a plan to free herself, she is humming and singing in the kitchen while serving her violent husband breakfast, smirking and smiling to herself at the trick she is playing on him. Her playful, downright cheerfully mischievous mood after such a terrible episode seems completely unrealistic considering her situation. One would think she would be nervous, subdued, even afraid after what had just occurred, but instead she is laughing to herself about how she is ‘turning the tables on him.’ This attitude really bothered me, seeming almost to make light of domestic violence and its effects.
It also bothered me that apparently, the entire town has been aware of the ongoing abuse for the last 18 months, including her two strong willed and outspoken best friends, but despite the closeness of the three, neither friend has broached the subject with Cori. I don’t know about other people, but if my friends even suspected that I was being abused by my partner, they would have at least attempted to talk to me about it. It just didn’t seem realistic to me that her friends didn’t try to intervene earlier when they were well aware of the situation.
Despite these issues, I really did enjoy the story. The playful banter between Cori, Wes, and Dani was entertaining and kept me turning pages. I really liked the connection that Wes and Cori shared, and the growing romance between them made for a very satisfying read.

This book made me feel a wide range of emotions. I got mad, I laughed, and I cried. I started this book this morning and couldn't put it down!! I hope she writes more!
I just finished reading this. It is a great book. I started reading it this morning and could not put it down. It had a great story line and kept you wondering what happened next. Many times books leave you hanging a bit at the end wondering what happened. This was not the case with this book.
This book took me awhile to get into, but once I did I was hooked. It had everything, some serious parts, some funny parts, and good romance. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone that likes quirky romances.
