What is a fantastic trait, a clear indication that a romance author is a great writer ? The fact that the couple doesn't even kiss until 80% of a 398 page book, and you are so enthralled by the story that you barely notice. This book was not filled with gratuitous sex scenes or men acting like they are the greatest gift to women. I absolutely adored the relationship dynamics between Gaby and her 3 baboons. I loved her sweet moments with Eli. I appreciated that because the book was in Gaby's POV, she called him NY his nickname in her mind as well. The reality of sharing space with a bunch of guys/musicians, the slow burn of Gaby & Sassy, and oh yes, let's not forget Ronalda !
Mariana's books have never failed me. I love her writing style, her humor, and this book had it in spades. There really isn't any major drama or conflict, no angst, no darkness, just a fantastic and hilarious love story. I REALLY hope we get to see more of the baboons, this would make such a great series.

Rhythm Chord Malykhin edition by Mariana Zapata Romance eBooks Reviews
"This—him—was easy. Effortless. It just felt right."
Rhythm, Chord, & Malykhin was easy, effortless, and yes, it just felt right!
Gaby and Sacha's relationship was a true friends-to-lovers romance and the way Mariana Zapata depicts their friendship is light-hearted and guess what? Yep, easy. Easy to fall in love with every moment that made me smile and giggle, every second I swooned, every time I got that little punch of angst. Every feeling Mariana forced out of me became, thats right, easy. Like breathing. Like Sunday mornings.
I usually prefer dual POV's, but I never once found myself wondering what Sacha was thinking because his personality shone through just as brightly as Gaby's. She's the best friend everyone wants and needs in their life and Sacha is well, he's Sacha. He's genuine with a beautiful soul. And together, watching these two fall in love without even realizing it, especially Gabby, made me so giddy inside I thought I might burst. It was like falling in love with your first love all over again.
Rhythm, Chord, & Malykhin is a slow-burning love story with tons of witty conversation, laughs, and instances that make you fall harder with every word read.
Seriously, if the hero's name doesn't do you in I swear the ending will. Read. This. Book!
I have loved and reread many of Zapata's other books, but I don't think I'll be revisiting this one. There's no real conflict! Like, I know that in most of her books the conflict is pretty much just the two people figuring out that they like each other. I get that and appreciate that as it has been done in other cases. But these two very clearly liked each other from the get-go! The dynamic between Gaby and the rest of the boys was great and really did seem sincere. I just didn't feel any passion between Gaby and Sacha, and I'm definitely looking for the passion in my romance novels!
Once again I will say it..Ms. Zapata is the QUEEN of the slow burn...this book was so effortless to read. It gave me what I needed as a reader without slamming me on the head with it...does that make sense? The way this author builds the friendship, love and connection between characters while life is just happening is outstanding. In other stories I would be bored..or think there was too much description but she tight ropes that line like a GD pro. IT's mesmerizing. I'm completely addicted to reading anything this girl writes. For serious.
4.5 stars!
“Not liking you is like fighting gravity.”
After her boyfriend dumps her, Gabby is asked to go on tour with her twin brother selling merchandise for his band. Which would be fine, if she wasn't insanely attracted to the lead singer of the other traveling band, Sacha. Three months and a bunch of countries, everyone will be tight together making for some interesting happenings.
“Because if I remember correctly, your text message said, ‘I just kicked the hottest guy I’ve probably ever seen in the a**.’ And I asked you what he looked like and you texted me back, ‘Like a double bacon cheeseburger I’d take a bite out of.”
Mariana Zapata is an author who has never let me down. I've read six of her books and thoroughly enjoyed them all. She takes the time to develop her characters and her relationships, so everything feels more real. I love that she writes slow burn instead of instalove, I love seeing the journey her characters take when falling for each other.
Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin is an excellent book and falls in the middle of the spectrum, not my favorite Zapata and not my least favorite. It's a solid rock star romance, but I also wondered why none of the band players were running around getting laid with everything that moved. Not that I want that, but I wonder if this was a more accurate depiction of the lifestyle where it takes place.
You need to start reading Zapata if you haven't already. And if you have read some of her books, bump this one up the to be read list.
“He was the end to my beginning.”
Mariana is Queen of the Slow Burn! She builds her characters up with humor and such emotion that when you get to the sexuals it becomes secondary (almost peripheral) to the meat of the story! AND I DON'T MIND IT ONE BIT!
I'm literally laughing my ass off while reading and almost decapitated my husband for interrupting me with a stupid question like "When are we going grocery shopping?" Who the eff needs food? Our spawn can feed themselves! This story is just as humorous and entertaining as her others... Do yourselves a favor and one click this bish!
